Hydrogen

A hydrogen expert for more than 60 years

On its Campus Technologies Grenoble, Air Liquide has developed a 60-year experience in hydrogen. It all started with liquid hydrogen tanks for the space industry, capitalizing on its unique test center.

Having proved its worth in the space sector, hydrogen in its liquid state offers significant advantages for heavy mobility (trucks, ships, aircraft). Its energy density facilitates on-board storage, rapid refueling and long range.

World premiere: contributing to the first electric flight powered with hydrogen

Low-carbon and renewable hydrogen will be essential to achieve the net zero objective by 2050 sought by air transport, which is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Air Liquide’s Campus Technologies Grenoble team has joined forces with several partners to form the Heaven consortium, whose objective was to fly the world's first aircraft with a fuel cell and liquid hydrogen, capable of transporting up to four people.

Air Liquide designed and manufactured the liquid hydrogen tank. Air Liquide and its partners carried out the various tests necessary for this project on its Grenoble Technologies Campus, including filling the tank with liquid hydrogen and starting up the plane.
