Solar Impulse 2 just completed the first solar and zero-emission transatlantic flight

Official supporter since the beginning, Air Liquide is proud to support this round the world with solar airplane by provinding oxygen to the pilot. A new step has been taken, leaving New-York JFK airport on June 20, the solar airplane of Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, landed at the Seville Airport in Spain, this Thursday June 23, covering a distance of 6'765 km (4'203 miles). The flight, that took three days, was one of the most challenging legs of the Round-The-World Solar Flight, the goal of which is to show that the world can be run on clean technologies.
A partner of choice for the aviation industry for many decades, Air Liquide is expert for onboard oxygen systems, it was natural that the company became official supporter of the project in 2013. Air Liquide provides aeronautic oxygen; a vital oxygen for the pilots at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters. Very pure, like its therapeutic counterpart, it is also very dry. Usually a disadvantage – because dry oxygen is less comfortable – here this is an advantage. There is no risk of freezing despite the conditions that may prevail in the Si2 cockpit. Our team is ready to provide oxygen in Seville stop.
Solar Impulse aims to inspire adoption of clean technologies as way to improve the quality of life on Earth. A vision shared by Air Liquide also involved in clean energies.
