Air Liquide produces and delivers Krypton

Krypton is a rare gas, making up only a tiny portion of the Earth's atmosphere. It’s extracted through the process of air liquefaction and fractional distillation.

With the expertise of Air Liquide Group, we can offer a wide variety of quality grades to suit your needs. If you are looking to buy Krypton, you are at the right place.

What is Krypton -(Kr)?

Krypton is a monatomic, colorless, odorless, and tasteless noble gas that is highly unreactive, making it an ideal choice for various specialized applications. As a non-toxic and non-flammable gas, krypton is both safe and versatile.

Krypton was discovered in 1898 by Sir William Ramsay and Morris William Travers. Its name comes from the Greek word "κρυπτόν" (kryptos), meaning "hidden".

What are Krypton applications?

Krypton's inert nature makes it non-reactive and ideal for combining with other chemical substances, which makes it valuable in many applications. Some of its key uses include glass insulation, surface treatments (PVD), space propulsion, and excimer mixtures.

Semiconductor industry

Krypton, frequently combined with other rare gases like Xenon or Neon, is crucial for excimer lasers used in high-precision photolithography pushing back the technological frontiers. Air Liquide provides Electronic grade high-purity Krypton to meet your needs.

Healthcare and Excimer Lasers

Krypton plays an important role in healthcare. For many years it's been used in eye surgery to power excimer lasers that produce high-precision ultraviolet (UV) light. It plays a crucial role in optical procedures, including generating excimer lasers for LASIK technology.

Krypton as propellant for Space exploration

Krypton has been developed for use in satellite applications requiring large propellant volumes. Its efficiency as a space propellant makes it a preferred choice for specific satellite missions.

Glass thermal Insulation

In the glass industry (glazing), Krypton is used as a filling gas in energy-efficient windows. When inserted between the panes of double or triple glazing, krypton greatly improves insulation, maintaining indoor temperatures and reducing energy costs.

Additionally, Krypton is used in specialized glass coating applications to enhance properties such as scratch resistance, anti-reflective qualities, and overall durability.

PVD Coating

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) is a vacuum deposition technique where Krypton is used in sputtering processes, including cathodic and magnetron sputtering. In this method, Krypton and other inert gases generate a plasma within a vacuum chamber, ionizing the gas. This plasma then impacts the target material, causing atoms to be ejected and deposited onto the object.

Krypton's larger atomic size makes it particularly effective for depositing large molecules such as tantalum, titanium, gold, and silver, providing enhanced coating properties.
