Science

Pushing back the limits of science, probing the origins of matter, accelerating electrons, protons and other particles, developing superconductive materials, mastering new energy sources like fusion: cryogenics provides boundless possibilities. That's why, with 60 years' expertise in extremely low temperatures, Air Liquide is recognized as a partner of scientific research. We design and supply refrigeration, liquefaction, and cryogenic fluid storage and distribution systems for laboratories and large scientific equipment.

Customized refrigeration system

Air Liquide has developed specific know-how in the design of bespoke cryogenic equipment for nuclear fusion research projects: Tore Supra in France, JET in Great Britain, SST-1 in India, KSTAR in South Korea, and JT-60SA in Japan. For ITER, we are supplying the biggest centralized refrigeration system ever built.

Since 2001 CryoConcept designs and builds Ultra Low Temperature dilution refrigerators. With an experienced team and being part of Air Liquide group we provide a very high level of expertise for our customers.

CryoConcept is able to provide standard to highly customised products in order to answer each customer’s needs. With many of our devices running for more than 1 year without shutdown we have demonstrated the high reliability of our systems.

Air Liquide's standard HELIAL refrigerator

Air Liquide's standard HELIAL refrigerator use helium to supply a cooling power of 4.5 K. Adaptable and easy to use, they are designed for research centers that require cryogenics for synchrotrons, cold neutron sources, cyclotrons, and particle accelerators.

Refrigeration around 20 K

For your applications requiring neutron slowing, such as cold neutron sources and deuterium distillation, shielding of space simulation chambers, Air Liquide manufactures custom-made 20 K refrigerators, sized to reach power from 500 W to several kW. All have associated transfer and storage systems.

Helium-3

One of the rarest gasses, helium-3 is stable, inert, nontoxic and nonflammable. Helium-3 has a wide range of applications. It is an essential molecule for neutron detection, dilution refrigerators, ultra low temperature physics research and aneutronic fusion.

Helium liquefaction

HELIAL helium liquefiers are a turnkey cryogenic solution for applications in superconductivity, nanotechnologies, biology, quantum physics, the characterization of materials, and space exploration. The central element of the HELIAL is made up of turbines based on our static gas-bearing turbine technology, which can reach speeds of 300,000 revs/min.

Turbo-Brayton cryogenic systems

Air Liquide's Turbo-Brayton technology is used both for refrigeration as well as for gas liquefaction. If your processes require reliability and energy efficiency, this technology will meet your needs. The primary innovation behind the Turbo-Brayton technology is the assembly of an integrated unit that includes the entire refrigeration cycle and requires zero maintenance.
